The long awaited Volkswagen Golf R Variant arrived ahead of its debut time at the 2014 Los Angeles Autoshow. This Golf variant/wagon isn’t wanted around the world as much as it is in Europe, especially Germany. Where speed, space and efficiency are a must for families and auto enthusiasts alike.
The Volkswagen Golf R Variant will make its world debut at this weeks 2014 Los Angeles Autoshow where many other manufacturers are droping their latest releases for the public to drool over. The Eurocentric Golf R Variant wont be sold in the United States market, but will start production througout Europe in spring 2015.
Performance of the new Volkswagen Golf R Variant wont be anything less than the current Golf R hatch, which boasts a claimed 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Which is really great, considering the 2.0 Liter engine that produces 296 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque all delivered via the same six-speed DSG dual cluth transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
Some other notable performance upgrades that the Volkswagen Golf R Variant will receive would be a lowered ride height of about 0.8 inches (lower than the regular Golf), 18 and 19 inch rims, Speed sensitive steering, better brakes, adaptive dampers, and an electronic stability control system. Another great feature added for the variant would be the “Driving Profile Selector” that allows the driver to change driving modes, with sport mode changing gear shifts, damping settings and engine response accordingly. The four available modes are: Eco, Normal, Individual, Race.
