Video&More: 2016 Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² Concept – Dubai – UAE
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² concept is here, your favorite SUV just got bigger, better and meaner, read on for more chunky details.
The 2015 Geneva Motor Show is going to bring us some of the best cars yet, while Mercedes decides to keep the Gelandewagen shape (G Class) intact and give it some rather interesting upgrades all to be officially revealed at March 3d on the Swiss showroom floor.
The Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² concept is worked over G-Class that focuses on off-road ability to give it superior performance, by jacking up the suspension, adding huge 22 inch wheels and tires, and portal axes – all seen in the previous G63 AMG 6×6 monster which was only produced in limited amounts, 500 units to be precise.
So basically, the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² concept is a smaller G63 AMG 6×6 with similar performance and less weight. Targeted at customers looking for a G-Class variant with incredible off-road abilities but don’t want the massive size of the G63 AMG 6×6.
The Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² concept is fitted with portal axes that give it a solid 18 inch ground clearance, that is 10 inches more than the standard G, while width is about 7 feet and height is nearly 7.4 feet thanks to ditching the rigid axles. The wheels are set much lower below on the axle heads because of the portal transmission as opposed to being at the height of the center of the axle.
The interior of the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² concept gets a sporty luxurious mix thanks to the designers approach in merging both simultaneously. The head restraints, seat bolsters, center console, the dashboard, and armrests are lined in black designo leather with white contrasting stitching. The door panels and seat surfaces, are layered out in microfiber and get a diamond-quilt pattern for the stitching.
Mercedes will also include a newly-developed chassis that features dual spring/damper struts and adjustable damping on the concept version, while the rest remains standard G class with side exhaust tips and flared fenders to showcase the muscles of this boxy car.
Beefy details ahead.. The Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² gets a twin-turbo-charged 4.0-liter V-8 developed by Mercedes-AMG (the new naming system for Mercedes AMG cars) This engine turns out 422 horsepower and that’s all you need to know for now.
Will you be able to buy the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4²? Yes, only if the concept receives good reviewes and attraction at the Geneva debut on March 3d. And while we think that might be valid, we are sure Mercedes-Benz is planning on releasing this car pretty soon, due to popular demand in Dubai, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and much of the other GCC countries.
