Video: Porsche Teases Return of 718

Porsche is on a roll recently with their Porsche Mission E being confirmed a week ago, and now they came up with a new strategy to make 4 cylinder turbocharged engines cool again, they are reviving the 718 nameplate which was last used on Porsche’s racing car in 1960 but they are introducing a twist.

The twist was to rename the Porsche Boxster and Cayman to include the 718 nameplate before their respective models during the mid-cycle update next year, so you get a Porsche 718 Boxster and a Porsche 718 Cayman both of which will feature 2.0-2.5 Liter flat-four engines that will include turbocharges to keep up with the current V6 models, while sources state that the new flat 4 is expected to be even faster than current 6-cylinder Porsche engines available in the Boxster and the Cayman.

Both Porsche 718 Boxster and the Porsche 718 Cayman will have identical styling for the first time, and also another first would be the 718 Cayman priced below the Porsche 718 Boxster both of which are debuting sometime next year during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
