Tesla Motors [NSDQ:TSLA] founder Elon Musk has been loud with his thoughts recently. He spoke about how it is going to be illegal for humans to drive in 20 years after autonomous cars are a common thing in the market. He simply compared it to the evolution of everything that replaces the old.
“To be clear, Tesla is strongly in favor of people being allowed to drive their cars and always will be. Hopefully, that is obvious,” he tweeted. “However, when self-driving cars become safer than human-driven cars, the public may outlaw the latter. Hopefully not.”
Tesla Model S to receive new software update which will enable it drive by itself.
The Autopilot feature was announced last fall and it comes with the new Tesla Model S which allows for basic self-driving features like controlling speed based on reading speed signs and using the built in Navigation system. There is also a software update in the works which will give the Tesla Model S the ability to navigate highways and major roads without any assistance from the driver – big news huh?
Musk also states that the Tesla Model S Autopilot system can technically take the Model S from parking lot to parking lot without the users interference. It is pretty obvious that Elon Musk is pushing hard for the self-driving technology to be worldwide in 10 years, but he wont admit it profoundly.
Elon also reviled the the Autopilot feature will allow the driver to summon the Model S via smartphone or even tell the car to park itself (on private property for now). Musk said. “But we won’t be enabling that for users with this hardware suite, because we don’t think it’s likely to be safe in suburban neighborhoods.”
The features offered by the new 7.0V firmware update in the coming weeks will improve the accelerator and brake feel while giving the Model S p85D a top speed of 155mph and add extra safety featured like blind-spot warning and automatic emergency braking.
