Mercedes-Benz have finally revealed the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC, which is basically a heavily revised version of the current SLK roadster model ahead of the public intro in the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.
The new 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC will be introduced as the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC300 powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder producing 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque while the performance variant Mercedes-AMG SLC43 gets the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 capable of 362 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, both are punchy and fast with 0-60 mph times of 4.6 seconds for the SLC43 and 5.7 seconds for the SLC300 topping out at 155 mph and 130 mph respectively. Both versions are equipped with Mercedes’ new 9G-TRONIC nine speed automatic transmission.
Both models of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC300 will come with standard Mercedes Dynamic Select system to adjust engine parameters, steering, transmission and suspension depending on road conditions, it will also receive a Dynamic Handling package and adaptive dampers. The 2017 Mercedes-AMG SLC43 will of course get better AMG sport suspension taken directly from the SLK5 AMG as well as the AMG Ride Control suspension including adjustable dampers which are optional.
That’s good sir, but what about them chassis tweaks you may be asking yourself? Mercedes-Benz introduced several changes to the suspension and the chassis all of which improve the The 2017 Mercedes-AMG SLC43 performance and handling – you also get larger brakes, stiffer rear axle gear units and stiffer engine mounts. Negative camber is increased to reduce under steer, stiffer three-link front axle steering knuckles and revised damping make sure the SLC43 is a handling machine capable of hanging with the best. Add to that list; forged aluminum track rods and an optional limited-slip rear differential to aid in better acceleration coming out of corners and from digs while improvising overall stability during high speed and braking.
The interior of the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC is a delight and is basically the same Mercedes-Benz interior re-fresh but it does get some updates like a new sport steering wheel, an aluminum trim mixed with a carbon-fiber finish and a new instrument cluster. The center screen has gotten a beefier 7.0 inches diagonally from 5.8 inches. The leather upholstery received perforations to the shoulder area with upholstery teaks overall.
The boring but not important bit is safety features and the SLC comes with a lot of them since you wouldn’t want to crash your new baby. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC comes with Collision Prevention Assist Plus, Active Brake Assist Plus obstacles detection and warning system and the ability to activate automatic braking to prevent or mitigate the accident severity.
The SLC is also new when it comes to styling with the authentic Mercedes-Benz front radiator grille and the diamond mesh with the power top carried over but can be operated at speeds of up to 25 mph. Mercedes says the new name change is in regards to the carried over technology from the new C-Class which promise to offer a better more engaging drive than the current SLK although there isn’t anything to complain about there!
