Not too long ago, we framed the Honda Acura NSX as one of the most advanced cars in its time, packing more technology than most of the super cars in that period, check this article to learn more about the older Acura NSX where we ranked it among the top 5 cars ahead of their time.
With a cult following so strong, the Honda owned Acura NSX most make its return in the history books, and that is what happened needless to say we dig the new look.
As expected, the 2015 Detroit Auto Show was the event Honda decided to drop their only super car where they introduced the all new 2016 Acura NSX that has considerably more technology than its predecessor. We weren’t disappointed with how Honda and Acura handled the NSX, giving it enough time to mature and grow into the skin it currently posses, looking ever so sleek thanks to its mid-engine layout, is it as good as the Nissan GTR though?
Speaking of engine layout, the new 2016 Acura NSX will be powered by a V6 engine, similar to the older one, only this time it gets a 75-degree angle mounted longitudinally in the chassis as opposed to the 90-degree bank angle and transverse mounting.
The engine will be compact and it will borrow Honda’s twin turbocharged indycar design which makes the valve-train of the new V6 race-derived featuring a dry sump oil system for great cornering and cooling performance. Aside from that V6 potter, the 2016 Acura NSX will get three new electric motors to aid in super acceleration which makes the NSX a hybrid hypercar that enables the driver to switch between modes as he prefers.
Two electric motors will be placed upgront to help aid forward traction as well as vector torque control to improve handling performance. The rear gets one electric motor to aid in acceleration, transmission shift quality and braking. No numbers have been released though, and that makes us worry..In a good way of course.
Transmission will be a nine-speed dual clutch unit developed by Acura which promises to deliver shifts so quick, they compared them to race-car quick gear shifts. The theme of the new supercar is what acura calls a “Human-centered supercar” that focuses the whole experience around the driver and will not compromise on anything.
While many of you Acura NSX fans (or Honda NSX as some of you prefer to call it) the Acura took its production shape with allot of the concept car DNA still intact, which goes to say that some changes had to be done for regulations sake.
Yes, we will tell you what the changer were Honda fanboys.. The 2016 Acura NSX got a longer body (3.1 inches longer) due to the change in layout angle expressed before, while the car sits wider by 1 inch to increase cabin comfort for the driver and the passenger. The wheelbase and overall height grew about 0.8 inches and 0.6 inches respectively. The visual changer were minimal, new front fender vents, wider side air intakes, optimized rear deck spoiler.
Behind all that sexy body work lays the multi material body composed of aluminum, carbon fiber, steel and other materials. Torsional rigidity is improved by a carbon fiber floor; the space frame is made out of aluminum and ultra high steel while body panels are a combination of sheet molding composite and aluminum.
Stay tuned for more information later on.
