With the F1 Grand Prix race featuring in Abu Dhabi this weekend, Infiniti which had teamed up with F1 winner Sebastian Vettle on their co-project the 2012 Infiniti FX50 Sebastian Vettle eedition, the car has been now launched in the UAE and GCC markets. The launching event actually took place in Dubai for a targeted group of potential customers.
So what is so special about this car? To be honest, we didn’t really see anything that eye-catching. It is obviously an attempt from the car maker Infiniti to market and sell their FX50 models, with an overly inflated and ridiculous price tag. Do you know what one of these things is selling for? Take a guess.
If you guessed 500,000 AED | 189,000$ then you are on the spot! For what might you ask? We asked that same question. Aside from the obvious prestige of riding in a Limited Edition car (only 50 produced for the GCC), we still believe the price tag is overly inflated. The 2012 Infiniti FX50 model was priced in the 80,000 $ 240,000 AED range, which means this featured edition model is more than double.
The collaboration attempt, which was between the CCO of Infiniti and Vettel, saw the FX50 model upgrade to a 420 HP 5.0 L V8 engine. The car also has new aerodynamic modifications and carbon fiber components, which no doubt were an influence of the F1 by Vettel. Compared with the regular 2012 Infiniti FX50 model, this featured edition only adds 30 HP. Nothing special, considering where you could spend the extra 250,000 AED. A few ideas would be the more luxurious Porsche Cayenne S which is only around 100,000$ / 360,000 AED and has 400 HP. If you fancy the turbo edition which has 500 HP, it will cost you 5,600$ / 20,000 AED less than this featured Infiniti model.
