Dubai is becoming the new conglomerate of public transport, with the addition of the Dubai Tram in the Jumeriah area. Just 10 years ago, Dubai barely had any transport means except for the Dubai Busses that roamed around the emirate, but now has more than 6 different transportation methods including sea and land.
While new signs and pavement marking make their way up along the 10.6 kilometre stretch of road dedicated to the Tram network, in hopes of spreading awareness to the motorists to learn and understand these signs to avoid hefty fines.
The Dubai Tram will pass by at least 30 junctions, with crossing and intersections that start from Dubai’s Police Academy in Al Sufouh all the way to Dubai Marina and JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence). Most of the signs that will be there relate to restrictions about road use for drivers as well as pedestrians to take note when they come across a moving tram on track.
Since this is the first time Dubai residents are witnessing a moving tram on the roads, the RTA is warning that it will fine offences related to disruption of tram movement will range from 2,000 to 30,000 Dhs..OUCH! And among those disruptions would be jumping a red light causing a fatal accident.
Jumping the red light and causing an accident with-out injuries – 2,000 – 5,000 Dhs (Black points and revoking Drivers license for 30 Days-6 months)
Jumping the red light and causing an accident with injuries – 5,000 – 10,000 Dhs (Black points and revoking Drivers license for 60 Days-12 months)
Jumping the red light and causing an accident with major casualties – 10,000 – 30,000 Dhs (Black points and revoking Drivers license for lifetime)
