This is the new Opel GT concept built to be the sports car of the future featuring a rear-wheel drive platform, lightweight construction and a bare-essentials only cabin for urban dwellers.
It is clear that Opel GT concept is aimed at the younger market who favor a fashionable simple sports car, and Opel isn’t shying away from their youthful branding as you can see in the pictures. It isn’t the first time Opel previewed the GT concept, in 2013 – the Monza GT concept was reveled for the public but that wasn’t as intriguing.
Opel did not opt for the power route on this concept, with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces a mediocre 145 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque routing power to the rear wheels via six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters, plus a limited-slip differential. Nothing revolutionary, but let’s be honest; you’re not buying this car for the engine but rather for the sleek urban design. The car weighs in 2,200 pounds and tops out at 130 mph, while able to reach 62 mph from a still in 8.0 seconds.
