So why did this Audi R8 Commercial get banned by the UK Advertising Standards Authority? apparently the ad was “promoting irresponsible driving” by displaying a computer-generated eye which was dilating and contracting during a hard driving session shown by the reflection of the tunnel lights.
Stupid? Yes, the R8 is a supercar and dilating your eyes is the least of their concerns or promoting reckless driving rubbish. The fact that the ad barely shows any actual reckless driving is just an additional reason not to ban the commercial.
The Audi R8 Commercial was a part of the “More focus. more drive” slogan campaign – Volkswagen group’s advertising company “Bartle Bogle Hegart” said “We considered that viewers would interpret the changes in pupil size as an emotional response to the movement of the car, as represented by the sounds that were audible during eye sequence”
I’ve seen far more reckless driving ads on the internet but hey, you never know what strikes a nerve in the commission that approves those ads.
