New 2018 AUDI A5 S5 Updated

The Audi A5 has sort of looked the same since it’s debut back in 2007 with minor face lifts here and there, it finally gets a well deserved redesign. The German coupe gets sharper but looses a lot of it’s alluring characteristics in the process, would the sharper looks be enough to get buyers flocking for the 2018 AUDI A5 S5? Let’s see.

The new A5 coupe has increased in length with a longer wheelbase although still recognizable as an A5 model. The redesign saw that the new 2018 AUDI A5 is in line with the new Audi design language. Sculpted hood, and slanted headlights are the first things you might notice. Most praiseworthy thing to mention is the extremely low drag coefficient of 0.25 which is miles better than the outgoing fatter version.

The new 2018 AUDI A5 will get the upgraded chassis with a mixed-material body all of which save up to 132 pounds over the first generation A5. Audi only announced the European engines for now which will include the turbodiesel 2.0-liter TDI I-4 unit, the turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 and the 3.0-liter TDI V-6 in two formats. Basically the same engines as before with similar power to what you get in the A4.

The 2018 AUDI S5 will get a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that produces a flattering but not impressive 349 hp (16 hp more than before) expected to be mated to an eight speed auto transmission. 0-62 mph could take up to 4.7 – 4.8 seconds according to Audi but we reckon it could be a lot slower.

The new A5 will get better suspension with the revised active dampers that are integrated into Audi’s drive select system, allowing the driver to change the handling and ride characteristics on the fly. Dynamic steering is also available; capable of electronically changing the gear ratio based on the speed and the steering angle.

The cockpit of the 2018 AUDI A5 is fancier with a new virtual cockpit and a wide 12.3 inch TFT screen serving as the gauge cluster. Of course you get the MMI infotainment system screen measuring in at 8.3 inch and placed bang in the middle of the center stack. The rest of the features are standard Audi tech with Bang & Olufsen audi system that gets an optional 3D sound and a hands free pop-on-gesture trunk that raises when you wave your foot under the rear bumper.

Other features like active lane assist, pre-sense collision mitigation and stop & Go cruise control will also be available for buyers in the U.S. Europe and Middle East within summer 2017.
