Volkswagen recently announced their new lineup of facelifted Golf mk7.5 models, but there was one thing missing. The 2017 Volkswagen Golf R. Thankfully though, VW has adapted the Christmas spirit, and they just gave us the full spec sheet.
Powering the 2017 Volkswagen Golf R is the same 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which now produces 306-hp and 295 lb-ft (400 NM) of torque. 10-hp and 15 lb-ft (20NM) more than before to match the Audi S3. Then there is the major update that sees the outdated 6-speed DSG replaced with a 7-speed Dual-clutch unit that provides shorter gearing and more speed. You can still buy the manual six-speed transmission if you fancy rowing gears yourself.
You’ll also notice that VW added a Variant (station wagon) to the Hatchback offering to attract more buyers in Europe where demand for a fast Estate is at an all time high.
Besides the engine upgrade, the 2017 Volkswagen Golf R gets a slightly tweaked front bumper with new LED lighting and a new headlight design.
The interior gets a new optional Active Info Display with a 12.3 inch HD screen, The new App Connect feature which helps you integrate your smartphone with apps like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirrorlink.
The Golf R also receives on-board tech features which add assistance systems to help the driver; including the new Pedestrian Monitoring for Front Assist with City Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign recognition, Emergency Assist, Blind Spot monitor, Park Assist, semi-autonomous Traffic Jam Assist, Driver Alert System and Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.
The 2017 Volkswagen Golf R hatchback is expected to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds and prices start at €44,800 for the Variant equipped with a DSG, €40,675 for the Golf R with a manual gearbox.
