This is it; the mother of all SUV’s, the ultimate luxurious SUV offering from Bentley which also happens to be the worlds most powerful, fastest and most luxurious SUV on the road (from factory).
This is the 2017 Bentley Bentayga and the British auto manufacturer has beaten the Germans to the punch when it comes to the most luxurious SUV title, debuting next week at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show. This Bentley can top out at 187 mph making it the fastest production SUV on the road, based on the Bentley EXP 9 F concept from 2012 it also is one of the best looking.
The 2017 Bentley Bentayga isn’t growing on me, but I do see how it drips luxury from every corner inside and out. Starting somewhere around $200,000 (Aed 726,000) it isn’t cheap, You do get LED headlights, paired with oval-shaped daytime running lights that incorporate telescoping headlamp washers however. Standard features include panoramic glass roof, which takes up 60% of the total roof surface and can be covered by an automated blind, including 20-22 inch rim sizes.
On the inside, the 2017 Bentley Bentayga features incredible elegance thanks to the traditional leather, sleek metal elements and wood inserts that you would expect only from a Bentley. Automation has been included and Park Assist is a passive feature that detects suitable parking spaces (Perpendicular and Parallel) before autonomous steering is enabled. Passengers in the back will feel the Bentley luxury too, thanks to the new Bentley Entertainment Tablet in the back, which is a removable 10.2-inch Android tablet that has WiFi, 4G and Bluetooth enabling the passengers to enjoy the ride.
On-board tech includes a digital instrument cluster, night vision mode, head-up display, and vehicle dynamic mode selector which lets the driver select the ideal vehicle setup depending on the current driving situation; Off-Road setup is included with many settings for different off-road surfaces that takes into account key metrics like – Wheel articulation, steering angle, roll, pitch, altitude and compass bearing.
Other electronic drivers aid include urban environment aid, for those who probably wont even think about off-roading their Bentayaga but if you live in the Gulf, you know that some people went off-roading with their Aventadors so taking a Bentayaga wont be anything extraordinary since it was designed for that. Anyways, the aids added are a set of predictive systems like adaptive cruise control that uses Navigation data, cameras and sensors specially equipped to predict upcoming corners, speed limits in the city – able to modify the vehicle speed, comfort and economy.
As expected, Bentley announced that the 2017 Bentley Bentayga will be based on the same SUV version of the Volkswagen Group MLB Evo platform which is also found in the 2017 Audi Q7. The same platform will be shortened and used in the new Lamborghini SUV “The Urus Concept” when it debuts, the Porsche Cayenne and the Volkswagen Touareg. The lightweight design of the platform shaves off 520 pounds but that dosen’t mean the 2017 Bentley Bentayga is light, because it wheighs 5,340 lbs (2463 kg).
But with so much weight, comes so much power. Bentley adds the twin-turbo W-12 6.0-liter mill which easily produces 600 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque enabling the humongous Bentayaga to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds all the way to a limited top speed of 187 mp-h (It’s the fastest SUV but not the quickest). What’s a great engine without a great transmission? The ZF 8-speed automatic transmission is the best out there and the Bentayaga gets that too. Both the transmission and the all-wheel-drive system have been strengthened to handle the increased demands of high-torque and off-roading as well as increasing fuel-economy since green is good these days. To do that, there is an engine stop-start system, a coasting function that disconnects the engine at high speeds while cruising on the highway, which is also smart enough to realize when the car needs throttle so it re-engages the transmission and the engine.
For the free-spirited people who want to track their 2017 Bentley Bentayga, I see you! Bentley took you into consideration and added new chassis mods (Off-road and Track) the latter sees that you can track your Bentayga with the Bentley Dynamic Ride system which Bentley claims is the world’s first electric active roll control technology. To explain it simply, the system instantly works to counteract lateral rolling forces during a corner to ensure maximum tire contact with the road, Bentley says this system is much better than the conventional anti-roll bars as it is able to alternate between ride comfort and body control.
I’m personally not into the new design direction Bentley is adapting but I do have a distinctive taste and aren’t swayed by the general public who seem to like anything new and disregard any sort of personal taste.
