2016 Toyota Land Cruiser: Best Version Yet

The infamous Toyota Land Cruiser debuted in 1957 back in the United States and since then, the Japanese Luxury SUV got through the paces with many face-lifts and countless upgrades making it one of the best off-roaders in the business – although it started life as a hardcore offroader, it evolved in to Toyota’s most luxurious offering in the SUV range with insane dune bashing skills.

As for the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser, it got a styling refresh with some major drive-train upgrades. It’s clear that the face of the land cruiser received many styling changes, including an integrated LED day time running lights into the headlight, a new chrome bar that also integrated with the headlight and the Toyota Logo and standard projector-beam LED low- and high-beam headlights, headlight cleaners. 18 inch alloys with new designs have been added as well, including chrome body side moldings that carry the Land Cruiser logo with new LED brake lights at the back, a new tail-light and a completely new rear bumper.


To accommodate the famous reputation of the Land Cruiser, a spacious cabin is a must – the  2016 Toyota Land Cruiser features seating for eight with semi-aniline perforated leather available in black or Terra (brown) accented by Deep Wood trim on all of the seats. While the interior gets a new center console that focuses a cohesive appearance and a functional design with intuitive controls.

The engine in the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser is the same 5.7 liter DOHC V-8 unit which puts out 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque matched with a new eight-speed automatic transmission in place of the out-dated six speed unit.

One of the interesting features on the new 2016 Land Cruiser would be the Siri Eyes free mode which allows the driver to communicate with iPhone’s Siri through a push of a button on the steering wheel, add to that list the Qi wireless phone charging system for compatible devices of course, all at the convenience of the driver. Other features include a multi-information display, Toyota’s safety Sense-P System and Dynamic radar cruise control. The Toyota Safety Sense-P system includes driver assist technologies like; front-collision avoidance, auto high beams, lane departure warning and the aforementioned dynamic radar cruise control with the addition of a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.


The 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser gets High-strength steel is used in the A-, B-, C- and D-pillars and lower rockers in the body-on-frame SUV to ensure proper rigidity. To make the Land Cruiser feel like a proper Luxury SUV that can go offroading without breaking a sweat – Toyota added the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension system which uses hydraulics to adjust the lea resistance of the stabilizer bars for street use and off-road use making the suspension swicth on or off road mode, with under-body skidplates protect the drive-train when driving off-road as seen in the video.


The Land Cruiser will have full-time four wheel drive active and it will use a Torsen Limited slip locking center differential that distributes torque by a 40:60 ratio – front to rear in normal driving situations and split power distribution to the wheels needed for maximum grip. You might be familiar with the Active Traction control (A-TRAC) uses brake and throttle interventions to control wheel-spin, while the transfer case is a two-speed with low-range on Multi Terrain Select system which can be adjusted for each terrain.The Multi-Terrain Monitor includes a near-360-degree view around the vehicle. Additionally, the Land Cruiser can play back 5 seconds of video of the front undercarriage’s projected path which can be very useful in tricky situations.


Switch the transfer case into low-range and the Crawl Control will regulate engine speed and output as well as the braking pressure to control the vehicle speed depending on the terrain. Other off-road systems include downhill assist, hill-start assist and off-road turn assist.

The new  2016 Toyota Land Cruiser stays true to its history and gives us yet another incredible addition to the line-up but will it live to the hype once put to the test?
