A while back we guess Lexus was teasing us with a performance model, and we were sure it was the GS F. The 2016 Lexus GS F has been revealed ahead of its 2015 Detroit Auto Show appearance, make no mistake this isn’t the Lexus GS F-Sport. It features that the Lexus RC-F coupe engine and some styling upgrades to make it look like a proper F sports car.
While the 2016 Lexus GS F isn’t all that new to be honest, it does have the 5.0 Liter V8 which produces 467 hp and 389 lb ft of torque which makes it stronger than the M3 by 42hp but less torquier as well. Although the Lexus GS F aims for the BMW M5 and the Mercedes E63 it is almost a whopping 100hp less than the Stuttgart BMW M5.
This really makes me wonder why Lexus hasn’t opted for turbo charged engine to keep up with the competition that is well above 500hp at the time, hell even the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V got 664hp (really Lexus?)
While based on the regular GS platform, Suspension received upgrades to cope with the extra power of that V8, and gets the familiar eight-speed automatic transmission with some paddle shifters to boot. Another set of familiar additions to the GS F are all seen in the RC F, the torque vectoring differential, coupled with a set of driving aids to help the driver in times of dire need.
Is this another expensive RC F you might be asking, and while you might be right we can’t answer that question until we drive one since we were already disappointed with Lexus’s decision to not use forced induction, and keep in mind that the Lexus GS F is quit heavy weighing in at 1830kg, a 100kg lighter than the BMW M5 and 200kg heavier than the M3.
Let us just wait and see till the official debut at the North American International 2015 Detroit Auto Show, just follow that page for more updates.
So fellow gear heads, would it be the GS F, the M range the CTS V or the AMG variants? Comment below and let us know!
