2016 Jaguar F-Type AWD, Manual Transmission and more

This 2014 Los Angeles Auto show is becoming a crowd favourite, and Jaguar isn’t slacking off this year with their latest and greatest model this year, the Jaguar F-type.

You know when you love a certain car, but would also love for it to receive that update which would make it perfect.. Well, Jaguar listened and gave the F-Type not one, but two updates. An All Wheel Drive system which improves everything about it, and reduces some of that unwanted oversteer in corners, and  a six-speed Manual Transmission which give you smiles and the ability to raw through gears yourself.

The 2016 Jaguar F-Type did not get any upgrades to neither of its engines the V6 and the V8. Both already producing adequate power with the supercharged 5.0 Liter V8 producing 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque, while the 3.0 liter V6 still pushes out 340hp and the Supercharged V6 gives out at 380 horses. A quicker 0-60 mph time of just 3.9 seconds is due thanks to the added traction from the “Instinctive All Wheel Drive” AWD system and the great eight-speed automatic transmission.

Instinctive All Wheel Drive is what Jaguar labeled their new AWD system for the sake of giving a name to their fancy 4wd, add to that the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) that helps compute torque and distribute it depending on the situation smartly and efficiently.

I was more than delighted to know that Jaguar decided to keep the character of the F-type intact by keeping the rear wheel drive layout by providing 100% of the torque to the rear wheel, however if slip is detected an electronically-controlled center coupling unit will transfer up to 50% of the engine’s torque to the front axle to manage oversteer and slip, enabling the driver to power through corners much sooner like butter on a steak knife “Yumm”.

the 2016 Jaguar F-Type Manual option will feature a short-throw gear lever with a travel of only 1.77 inches, precisely placed pedals for heel and toe action and closely spaced ratios. The transmission for the Manual option is the all too familiar ZF transmission manual gearbox. Jaguar’s Vehicle Line DIrector Ian Hoban said today at the 2014 LA “Our target with engineering the all-wheel-drive F-Type was to maintain that engaging rear-drive character that’s so important to Jaguar sports car DNA, and offer even greater dynamic capability, With the manual transmission option for the V-6-powered F-Type models, we’ve gone to intricate lengths to engineer a very precise, technical and responsive level of interaction between the driver, the clutch and the transmission shift mechanism—it’s one for the driving purist.”
