Ford says they see performance as the catalyst of moving forward with their machines, and doubt has been simply removed with the official reveal of the 2016 Ford Focus RS.
Although Ford is purely American, really.. But for years, they managed to keep one of the worlds best hot hatches out of America, yea but not any more. The new 2016 Ford Focus RS is packing 345 horsepower and all wheel drive, a package that is irresistible.
Two guys sat and spoke about the history of the RS models in the Ford company, which was somehow interesting. It all go serious when they mentioned 350-HP and AWD on a Hatchback which really got me thinking why one would not get an RS? While the stock Focus ST is a very capable hot hatch with its 2.0 Liter Turbo engine that has 252 hp and 270 lb-ft, that isn’t enough though and that’s why the 2016 Ford Focus RS gets a bored out 2.3 Liter 4 cylinder turbocharged engine sourced from the Mustang EcoBoost platform, specced to produce 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
2016 Ford Focus RS Official: 320hp AWD Beast
Add to that a six speed manual transmission and you have a super fun, grippy, and rather poppy car heard during the live stream where Ken Block drives it through the Ford Factory, I must say it kind of sounded like an STI. Recaro seats are standard, RevoKnuckle suspension for torque steering is no longer an issue.
Expect proper All-wheel drive as well, with torque vectoring able to send up to 100% of the available power to one wheel only! While monitoring conditions the 2016 Ford Focus RS manages to decide which wheels need the power most. Add to that a revised and upgraded suspension that features sway bars, stiffer springs, and adjustable dampers coupled with electric steering.
Raj Nair “Group Vice President at ford” says the 2016 Ford Focus RS will be a host of technological advancement, and possibly a cornering monster. He also hints at some surprises soon down the line, expect to have the great Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires as an option
Fun is a huge factor, Raj says it should carry the RS badge with pride – popping and crackling like a true RS should, exclusive with unparalleled technical excellence. Now let’s compare it with the Volkswagen Golf R’s 292 hp? How about the Subaru STI’s 305 hp. It’s even 100 hp more than the Ford Focus ST and just 10 hp less than the A45 AMG but a quick tune should fix that easily.
You’ll have to wait for the 2015 Geneva Auto Show debut in March 3, when the 2016 Ford Focus RS makes its official debut.
