The much awaited review for the 2016 Ford Explorer has been unveiled. The Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] stand in this year’s 2014 Los Angles Auto Show has been booming with new cars like the Ford GT350 and the Galpin/Fisker Ford Mustang Rocket .
The 2016 Ford Explorer will go on sale next summer as a 2016 model to celebrate the Explorer’s 25th anniversary since the first model back in 1991. The 2016 Explorer is expected to reach Dubai and GCC dealerships at the same time period due to the Explorer’s popularity around the Middle East. The synapses highlight for the 2016 Ford Explorer are updates like new styling, a powerful 4 cylinder Eco-Boost engine, a new range topping Platinum trim and more technology.
The exterior of the new Explorer saw several tweaks made to the bumpers and the Head/Tail Lights which turn this SUV from Ford from an economy box into a an upscale good looking SUV. Thanks to a more premuim approach inside the cabin, with surfaces wrapped in quality materials and a more refined feel to the buttons and the overall cabin upholstery (no more hard plastics).
In addition to exterior updates, the 2016 also got technological updates, with the addition of front and rear cameras with washers (Industry first), active grille shutters to help save fuel by reducing drag at higher speeds, a better park assist system with semi automatic parallel and perpendicular parking, which also has an exit function to help the driver out of these hard parking spots. The new system controls the steering wheel functions only, while driver remains in control with acceleration and brake functions.
More tech features are added as well to bring the 2016 Ford Explorer to the 21st century, like adaptive cruise control with collision warning & brake support, additional USB Charging ports, lane keep & Blind spot assist, cross traffic alert, inflatable rear seat belts and automatic high beam dimming.
The engine in the 2016 Ford Explorer comes with two options, an up-rated 3.5 liter v-6 as standard for Base, XLT and limited models. The 3.5 liter engine is rated at 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque paired to a six speed automatic transmission, which is standard on all 2016 Explorer models.
New for the 2016 Ford Explorer is 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine taken straight out of the new 2015 Mustang EcoBoost which replaces the old 2.0 liter EcoBoost in the Explorer. The turbocharged and direct-injected engine puts out an impressive 270-290 ho and 300 lb-ft of torque, which is now applicable with the 4WD and Terrain Management systems, that the 2.0 Liter couldn’t not be paired with.
The Platinum trim is new for the 2016 Ford Explorer and it gives the SUV great luxury equipment, that brings the explorer up to par with the fierce competition that surround it. Vehicles equipped with the Premium trim get standard and dual-panel moon roof, satin chrome mirror caps, satin chrome lower bodyside with cladding inserts, 20-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support, unique stitching on the steering wheel complemented by real wood accents around the cabin, leather wrapped door and console armrests, a 500-watt Sony sound system, leather-lined seats and instrument panel, an all digital instrument cluster and all the aforementioned electronic driver aids.
