Finally, the 2015 Ford Mustang GT has been released to the public eye and hand for us to molest it as we please, erm?
Never mind that, every body knows that the Ford Mustang is an iconic pony car, but what most people seem to miss is the fact that it was always targeted towards the American market which isn’t a wrong thing at all. But, it never capitalized on its full financial potential in the coupe market. However, times change and Ford ditches that mentality and commits muscle car sin by adding a 2.3L Eco Boost engine to the all new 2015 Ford Mustang.
Yes, Ford also ditches the classic muscle car look in favor of attracting the European market. Alongside many other changes, like an all new plush interior, better aerodynamics, much more advanced tech and the long awaited IRS (Independent Rear Suspension).
Performance figures were released for the new 2015 Mustang GT, which hits 0 to 60 Mph in 4.4 seconds, while crossing the quarter mile in 12.8 at 112.2 mph powered the Cayote 5.0L V8 with 435hp and 400 lb-ft. of torque – larger intake and exhaust valves & New intake and exhaust camshafts with increased lift. which isn’t faster by any margin than the outgoing mustang which is actually a 0.1 second faster in the quarter mile sprint. Yes, disappointing how can Ford release a slower new model? Well with all the new tech and the big six-piston ®Brembo brakes came allot of extra weight (more on that later).
The big news here isn’t the engine that beats for the pony beast, but rather the legs that help the pony feast.
Yes, the new suspension coupled with the optional performance package help boost the Mustang Gt’s handling to Boss status. The new 2015 Ford Mustang GT crosses the figure eight in 24.7 seconds with an average 0.84 g. Making it much quicker and nimbler than the outgoing model which got 0.77 g and 25.0 seconds on the fig 8 also beating the Boss 302 with a higher average g (grip lateral).
By now, you would be expecting me to praise the 2015 Mustang GT, but the fact is that it isn’t faster than the old one while it still handles better it remains to be a huge letdown when an outgoing model can beat you in the quarter mile. But why you must be asking yourself, the Mustang GT is heavy.. It is 196 pounds heavier than the outgoing model weighing in at 3814 pounds which is 214 pounds heavier than the new much more luxurious BMW M3.
The short story here is, we wont be able to tell until we drive one but from the looks of it we wont be missing those plastic cabin materials on the old one.
